Anthony Wong, Stephen Fung, Gillian Chung, Daniel Wu, Ma Wu
House of Fury's opening sequence involves veteran HK actor Anthony Wong's character, Yue Siu Bo, battling masked ninjas who travel like groundhogs and even one who can disappear like Nightcrawler of X2 fame. The mighty Mr. Yue kills them all sustaining no even a scratch, with weapons magically appearing in his hands every time the film cuts from one shot to another. A little ridiculous, you say? That's because it's supposed to be. If you were sitting under a tree telling this tall tale to a bunch of kids, wouldn't you exaggerate a little too? Directed by Stephen Fung, this is one impressive film. Initially, I thought it would be another overhyped, subpar offering, but man was I wrong! If you are looking for a purely Hong Kong styled film, this is the one. You'll get a glimpse at real Hong Kong culture, for the uninformed. The storyline is better than most Hong Kong action flicks, although it isn't that hot either, but the quality of action and cinematography make up for it. If this is a sign of the direction Hong Kong cinema is heading towards, then we are good to go! My point is, this film is masterfully crafted and brilliantly filmed, not to mention extremely well acted.
