Troy

Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, Julian Glover, Orlando Bloom
Directed by Wolfgang Petersen

Troy did not live up to its hype. There was nothing spectacular that had not been seen before. The only interesting thing was, when the Trojans rolled these giant balls of hay down a sand dune after shooting burning arrows into the ground where the hay would roll. So the as the balls rolled, they would catch on fire and by the time they got to the Greek camp, they would set everything on fire, exploding like big organic bombs. That was new! Other than that, there was an utter lack of sweaty palm moments and concern for the characters. Sheesh, even when Hector died the impact just was not there.

I got the feeling that the actors did not get an opportunity to act, or were overacting, like in a musical or stage play. It was so unnatural, like they were strugglign to remember what the hell they were supposed to say. This was probably a result of the director overdirecting and the whole "epic" atmosphere they wanted to create for this film. There were some incredibly cheesy line of dialogue too, that were supposed to be funny or witty or whatever. I can't remember them anymore, but if I get my hands on a copy of the script...

The woman who played Hector's wife had the ugliest lips. And of course in the close ups they were like three feet across...*gag* The women in these types of stories are always weaklings. But I suppose in this case it wasn't the screenwriters' fault, that was just the way it was in the darn story.
